Nick Canedo is currently a senior English/communication arts major at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. He is currently the editor-in-chief of The Rattler Newspaper and previously worked as copy editor. His previous work experience includes an internship at the Paseo Del Rio Association and working at the St. Mary’s University Registrar’s Office.
Canedo is a member of the McNair Scholars Program. Last summer, he worked with Bill Israel, Ph.D., to research how four major U.S. daily newspapers utilize Twitter. He presented his research local, regional, and national conferences, including the California McNair Scholars Symposium.
Canedo is also a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, where was the education chairman and served on the Executive Committee and Fraternity Education Committee.
Canedo’s achievements include being inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Alpha National Academic Greek Honor Society and Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society. He has been placed on the Dean’s List and awarded the Trustee’s Scholarship, Bro. Schuster Scholarship, Cruz M. Tijerina Scholarship and Lillian Pressman Memorial Scholarship at St. Mary’s. In 2012, Canedo was a recipient of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists Scholarship and received the People’s Choice award at a graphic design competition at St. Mary’s.
During his time at St. Mary’s, Canedo has completed over 60 hours of volunteer work for various organizations, including the San Antonio Youth Literacy Program and Dream Center of San Antonio.
